Community Guidelines
The rules of the road for the Velum ecosystem.
1. Our Philosophy
Velum was built to solve the biggest frustrations in the voice acting industry. We believe in high-fidelity audio, seamless workflows, and above all, protecting human talent.
To maintain a premium ecosystem where Casting Directors get broadcast-quality audio and Voice Actors find legitimate, safe work, we rely on a combination of automated Trust & Safety tools and community-driven moderation. By using Velum, you agree to uphold these standards.
2. Account Standing & Auto-Moderation
To keep the platform safe, Velum utilizes an automated "Account Standing" system. Violating our guidelines generates "heat" on your account. Your current standing can always be viewed in your Account Settings.
Accounts in good standing benefit from Instant Publishing. Casting Directors in this tier earn the blue Verified Director badge, signaling to talent that your projects are safe and legitimate.
If your projects are flagged by the community or trigger our safety tripwires, you will lose your Verified badge. Consider this a warning to review our guidelines.
Accounts with repeated flags lose Instant Publishing privileges. All future casting calls will be placed in a "Pending Approval" queue and must be manually vetted by our human admin team before going live.
Severe or continuous violations will result in an automated hard-ban. You will be logged out and unable to access the platform.
We believe in second chances. Account penalties decay automatically over time. If you maintain good behavior and post clean projects, your account will "cool down" every month, eventually restoring your Verified status.
3. Guidelines for Casting Directors
Directors are the lifeblood of Velum, but we enforce strict rules regarding what can be posted on the Casting Board.
- Zero Tolerance for AI & Synthetic Voices: Velum is a human-only platform. Requests for AI voice cloning, synthetic TTS, or training data harvesting are strictly prohibited and will result in an immediate ban.
- No Explicitly Pornographic Content: Projects must not contain explicitly pornographic, erotic, or "NSFW audio" content (e.g., fetish content, explicit sexual roleplay, "lemons", or smut).
NOTE: Professional, tasteful mature themes (like R-rated video games, horror, or standard audio dramas) ARE allowed and should use the Content Warnings field. - Transparent Compensation: Pay rates must be honest and upfront. Bait-and-switch tactics (e.g., listing a project as Paid but asking for free work in the description) will result in your project being flagged and removed.
- Mandatory Content Warnings: If your script contains mature themes, intense profanity, or extreme violence, you must use the Content Warnings field in the project builder to inform actors before they read the sides.
4. Guidelines for Voice Talent
To ensure directors are not overwhelmed by spam, actors must adhere to the following standards:
- Respect the Requirements: Do not bypass the Velum app technical limits. If a director requests 48kHz / 24-bit audio, attempting to upload lower quality, altered, or artificially upscaled audio will result in penalties.
- Professionalism in Notes: When submitting an audition, keep your "Actor Notes" professional. Do not solicit directors for work outside of the scope of the project.
- No Spamming: Submitting to every single role on the platform regardless of your demographic fit disrupts the workflow for directors. Curate your auditions.
5. Community Reporting (The Shield)
Velum relies on Voice Actors to help protect the board. Every project has a "Report Project" button.
If you see a project requesting AI training data, promoting a scam, or violating content guidelines, please report it. Our automated system tallies these reports and will automatically hide the project from the public board for human review if it reaches a specific threshold.
